for and about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals and
their significant others.

Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals is a nonprofit organization
that provides a positive environment and support to gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, and questioning youth in the greater Houston area.

The Gay & Lesbian Yellow Pages, the world's leading publisher of annual
telephone information guides directed at the professional gay and lesbian
community. Advertisers are a mix of upscale, gay and gay-friendly businesses
that have recognized the spending power of the often overlooked community.
Advertising in GLYP is not a reflection of the sexual orientation of an
advertiser, but there is an implied promise that gay and lesbian people
who patronize the advertisers will be treated with respect and dignity.

Houston Voice
A weekly gay newspaper,
available free at hundreds of locations, including grocery stores, selected
post offices, coffee houses, and all clubs.
Outsmart
A monthly, glossy, gay
magazine, available free at most clubs and gay-friendly businesses.
The
Houston Press
Houston's alternative
newspaper. Not gay, but very gay friendly. A great resource for restaurants,
theaters and live entertainment. The Press has a good personal ad section
with Men Seeking Men and Women Seeking Women. Available free all over
town.
PFLAG
of Houston
PFLAG works to keep
families in loving relationships by helping them understand and support
their gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered members. PFLAG also seeks
to dispel the myths and misinformation by working with educators, community
and religious groups, the media, and the general public. Lastly, PFLAG
works to broaden the base of support for equal human and civil rights
by mobilizing millions of supporters from all political, economic, and
social sectors of society.
Council
on Alcohol & Drug Abuse / Houston
The Mission of the Council is to keep our community healthy,
productive, and safe by providing services and information
to all who may be adversely affected by alcohol and drugs.
The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston is an affiliate of
the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and
receives funding from the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast
and the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse as well
as private contributions, special events and program fees.
Services are available on a sliding scale for those who qualify.
Confidentiality is observed.

Texas
Human Rights Foundation THRF
founded in 1977 as a vehicle to directly challenge the newly enacted §21.06
of the Texas Penal Code which criminalized homosexual behavior while freeing
heterosexual couples to engage in the very same behavior. It is the oldest
gay-rights advocacy organization in continuous operation in Texas. THRF
serves the entire state through access to a toll-free hotline, and legal
referral in cases of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender
identification and HIV/AIDS. |
